Dining for Diversity at the Charleston Wine + Food Festival January 21, 2010
On
behalf of Alex Askew, President of the BCA, and BCA founding member and
Culinary Institute of Charleston Chef Instructor Kevin Mitchell, The
Culinary Institute of Charleston is proud to announce the inception of
the first student chapter of the BCA in the Southeast at the Culinary
Institute of Charleston (CIC), Charleston, South Carolina.
To
launch the chapter to the Charleston community, the BCA and CIC will
host a Dining for Diversity Dinner (Sat March 6th), an official
function of the 2010 Charleston Wine + Food Festival (March 4 – 7). Now
in its fifth year and boasting a roster of internationally known chefs,
wine professionals, and brewers, the Charleston Wine + Food Festival
showcases the food, culture and ambiance of historic Charleston.
The
Celebration of Diversity Dinner will give BCA supporters the
opportunity to visit Charleston, enjoy the Festival, and raise funds
for the new BCA chapter. Renowned chefs will work with students to
create a sumptuous meal with paired wines that will inspire and educate
guests about the movement to bring diversity to the chef’s kitchen. The
evening will begin with a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres and
insight into the new BCA student chapter starting at the Culinary
Institute of Charleston campus this fall. Hosted by Alex Askew and Chef
Mitchell at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s downtown Palmer
campus, an exciting selection of celebrity chefs has committed their
time to participate in this historic event:
Chef Marvin Woods, author of two cookbooks and an Emmy Award-nominated Turner Broadcasting show, Home Plate
Chef Peng Looi, owner of Louisville, Kentucky’s award-winning
restaurant August Moon Chinese Bistro and co-owner/Executive Chef of
Asiatique

Chef Ron Duprat, Contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef and Executive Chef of Hollywood Beach, Florida’s Marriott
