Chef Milton Sheppard

Chef Milton Sheppard, Fedcap Senior Culinary Arts Instructor, graduated from Johnson & Wales College in 1984 with an Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. He has worked as a Chef/Manager/Food Service Director in corporate dining, and as a Director of Training, Program Director and Instructor throughout New York State with the Culinary Training Institute, Educational Training Institute and Culinary Tech Center.

He was born, raised and educated in Mount Vernon, NY, and began his culinary career as a dishwasher at Pizza Hut.

 

 

 

 

 


Tim Pitts

Tim Pitts has been working in the culinary field for over 13 years throughout NY, NJ and Connecticut. His dedication and perseverance to the culinary industry have allowed him to achieve the titles of Executive Chef and Private Chef/Personal Chef. Currently, he is the Executive Chef at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY. Tim has proven himself to be a strong team leader and mentor to young chefs of the future. His continued support of the BCA is an example of his passion and dedication to the continued expansion of the culinary arts.

His interests are reading and collecting cookbooks, working out in the gym, fishing, and landscaping his yard. During the football season, he is an avid NY Giants fan.

 

 

 


Tiffany Andrews

Tiffany Andrews, a Queens native, is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and a former BCA Student Chapter President. She currently works for Compass Group USA as a Chef Manager of Dining Services at St. John’s University. Tiffany also owns and operates Sounds Delicious Events, LLC where she offers full service catering and event planning services.

As an active member of her church, Tiffany spends time exposing youth to culinary and hospitality experiences as often as possible. A lover of culinary, performing and textile arts, Tiffany is always making things beautiful and educating her community. “I am dedicated to paying it forward; someone invested in me and I have to do the same.” Tiffany serves as the Secretary for the BCA Advisory Board and Steering Committee and is dedicated to making the next generation of the BCA “Better, Smarter, Faster”.

 

 

 


Lenore I. Washington-Graham
President, LWG Communications, Inc.

Lenore is an accomplished marketing communications executive with a track record of building successful consumer and B2B campaigns, marketing teams, and working with small business. A technology enthusiast, she is also a software and technology trainer. Clients include Sprint, Hewlett Packard, Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN), National Supplier Diversity Council, NAMIC (National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communication)s and Becker CPA Review.

Lenore leveraged her marketing experience in AARP’s Multicultural Markets and Engagements group, as Knowledge Management Officer. In this role, she led the research strategy for growing AARP’s membership base. She also developed marketing materials, created web content, identified needs of businesses, and set a enterprise-wide learning agenda, producing programs with speakers from various industries.

She was Vice President of Strategic Resourcing at Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI,) a lifestyle content provider for familiar brands such as Food Network and Home and Garden Television. She developed a branding campaign that built awareness of SNI and its programming, leveraged partnerships to secure media exposure, and represented SNI on panels, at conferences and in trade press. Additionally, she led the SNI diversity initiative, speaking both locally and nationally as a panelist and keynote speaker. A foodie,  she signed SNI as a BCAGlobal corporate sponsor while in this role.

She also served as a Vice President at the New York Economic Development Corporation during Mayor David Dinkins tenure where she managed a team of 30 individuals to facilitate business development in the City of New York.

She honed her marketing skills at traditional consumer marketing firms, and eventually leveraged that experience in economic development, government, politics and media. She earned her MBA in Marketing at Columbia University, a B.S. in journalism at Northwestern University, and recently completed the Nonprofit Leadership certificate program at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Business, Institute for Ethical Leadership.


Cora Franklin

Coralene was raised in Harlem by a single mother, is the mother of three beautiful children herself, and partner to a wonderful fiancé. Coralene’s love for food and cooking began at the age of five while helping under the watchful eye of her Grandmother Coralene (her namesake), mother and aunt. Her childhood mentor would allow her to do small things like crack eggs while explaining each step of the cooking process.

Coralene comes from a long line of great cooks who specialize in awesome Southern and West Indian cuisine. Her culinary history includes a grandmother who owned and operated a mom & pop shop where black entertainers would come to dine after performing in the segregated south. They also raised her to understand that education was important as well. After working in data entry for seven years and becoming a Certified Nurses Aide, Coralene took the next step to pursue her dream. With the encouragement of her children, she entered culinary school and her love of food and family continues to this day.

Coralene is often considered the "go to" person at her church and in her community for outstanding cakes and all that is Traditional Southern cuisine and greatly enjoys living her dream.


Dianna A. Palmer,  Entrepreneur

Dianna A. Palmer, a Bronx native of Caribbean descent, owns and operates Gifted Hands Catering and Personal Chef Services. Currently working as a Product Specialist for GE Appliances, Dianna is dedicated to the mission of the BCA.

Being a member of the BCA Advisory Committee and having the honor to help other students on their journey in the Culinary Arts field is very near and dear to her heart.  Dianna started as a mentee herself with dreams of becoming a "Top Chef" in the industry, "Having the opportunity to help guide and encourage someone else is meaningful to say the least."

 

 

 

 


Lenise Streeter, Pastry Chef

In 2005, while doing my externship from ICE (Institute of Culinary Education), I met a wonderful woman by the name of Natividad Roman (Natty) who was an employee of BCA.  Natty introduced me to the President of BCA, Alex Askew and in that same year, I attended my first BCA Gala event.  Once I attended the Gala I knew I wanted to be involved with this organization.  Natty and I became good friends and she invited me to be a volunteer with the organization.  From my first time volunteering, I learned so much and made so many positive connections.

At the time being a recent Pastry Chef graduate (2005), BCA afforded me the opportunity to see how things in the culinary world really worked.  I was able to work in the Tavern on the Green kitchen with some of the top chefs as well as meet many dignitaries of the culinary world such as Jefferson Evans, Melba of Melba’s Restaurant and much more.

Over the years, I have become the BCA Volunteer Director, a position that I take very seriously. Bringing volunteers together to continue to make Alex’s dream stay alive has been very rewarding. Working with Alex and the rest of the team on a regular basis to help inner-city students fulfill their goals and dreams has been not only an inspiration but my pleasure.

Over the past 2 years, I have had the opportunity to showcase my baked goods at the annual BCA Food and Wine Experience which has also afforded culinary students the opportunity to work directly with chefs and enhance their knowledge and perfect their skills.

As a Pastry Chef, I now have an online business and I assist other students and bakers in any way I can.  I am grateful to Alex and BCA for their support and guidance. 


Stephanie Boyd Serafin, LCSW

Ms. Serafin has devoted her career of more than three decades to improving the safety, permanency and well-being of children, youth and families. During her 35 years of experience in the field of child welfare, she has been both a clinical social worker and an agency administrator directing social service programs in New York City.

Ms. Serafin has been an adjunct professor and faculty advisor at the Hunter College School of Social Work. In addition to her professional experience, Ms. Serafin has served on the board of the Westside YMCA as the liaison to the Youth Services Division and has participated as a mentor to young adults for several programs in New York City.
